It took them a while to catch on that Batman would be the greatest. (Kane) Robert Kane at age 18 created one of the greatest Superheroes we feel ever seen. A man named Robert Irwin has an original copy of the firstborn comic book that featured Batman. The copy cost him .10 when he was 13 years old in 1939. He is right away selling it for $400,000. (Farrier) Batman has only gotten more popular through age.
In 1938 Superman was introduced. DC Comics wanted a new hero, so Robert (Bob) Kane came up with the idea of The Batman. His idea of The Batman was a man with a red suit and black bat wings. A trembler of Kanes, William (Bill) Finger, helped him to create the Batman that we know today. Finger suggested changing the flavor, because at the time The Batman looked too much care Superman. (MacNabb) I got a Websters dictionary off the shelf and was hoping they had a drawing of a bat, and sure enough they did. I said, notice the ears, why assumet we duplicate the ears? I suggested he draw what looked like a cowl…I had suggested he bring the bridge down and make him mysterious and not show the eye at all… I didnt like the wings, so I suggested he make a cape and cutlet the edges so it would flow out behind him when he ran and would look like bat wings.
He didnt have each gloves on. We gave him gloves because naturally hed leave fingerprints. (Finger) Finger gave Batman his personality. He said he wanted Batman to be a commix of Douglas Fairbanks, Sherlock Holmes, The Shadow, and Doc Savage. Some of the other things Finger contributed were Batmans real name (Bruce Wayne), Robin, Gotham City, Cat-Woman, and many other villains. Finger enjoyed whodunit novels and styled Batman after them.
