In Achebes Things Fall Apart, Achebe describes the rise and downfall of the small town through a series of community garners. There ar a total of four community pull togethers throughout the novel. In the send-off part of the novel, the community gatherings are well form and actually democratic in a sense - everyone at the gathering enthusiastic is able to express their feelings and has the chance to utter their thoughts. All the villagers at the gatherings are in addition concerned and very enthusiastic about the same issues. The community gatherings have a strong sense of community and coalition between the villagers. However, by the end of the book, the last community gathering has a hammy change in the way its held compared to the gatherings at the send-off of the book. These changes represent how torn apart the village is.
In the first part of the book, the town leader calls the first community gathering at the market place in the morning and the gathering is very organized. The night before there is a town crier announcing the gathering with a clear overtone of tragedy (9), it is a tradition of the village that the crier announces the gathering the night before. In the morning of the gathering the villagers arrived early and all talking in low voices (10), even though there are ecstasy thousand manpower there (10).



It is a clear bless that the villagers know that there must be something important organism announced at the gathering and they must be motionless in order to keep the gathering organized. Ogbuefi Ezeugo yelled Umuofia kwenu four times at the gathering and ten thousand men answered Yaa! each time. Then there were perfect silence (10). This also shows that the villagers follow the old traditions during the gathering and the gathering is very organized. A gathering is organized or not can very much show the bond between the people attending it. by means of this very organized gathering, we can see the close bond between the villagers and how enthusiastic they are.
