The Golden Gate Bridge of San Francisco is an amazing site to see. I visited it two years ago on a vacation, and a lot of things came to mind as I gazed at the complex body part and walked across it, but committing suicide or thinking that someone actu everyy had was not one of them. Unfortunately, there are hoi polloi who think about committing suicide al just about every day, by jumping of the bridge into the cold waters about 245 feet below. The Bridge tells the story of six people out of twenty cardinal who fell to their death in 2004, and one who jumped but survived. separately story is told by loved ones of those who took their own lives, which makes this documentary until now more emotional and impactful.
The movie begins and ends with Gene Sprague, a long-haired 34-year-old rocker-type who, according to his friends, was trying to find love in all the wrong places. Most of his time was spent on the net looking for dates that never turned out how he hopeed. Everything he owned was black. He would tell his friends he was going to refine himself, or tell them to kill him, to the point that it was like he was crying wolf.
It shows him walking around the bridge several clock in the movie, almost like he was contemplating things before he made his final leap, which was a dramatic backwards betide with his arms stretched out. There was a message on his respond machine saying there was a job interruption as a manager of a Game Stop, which was what he was wanting. Whether he heard this message or not testament never be known.
Another jumper, 44-year-old Lisa Smith, was given a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia while a teenager and is remembered by her family as struggling with severe mental illness for most of her life.
