I toured the William Dickerson Detention ease of the Wayne County Jail with my Criminal jurist Class. The assignment is to summarize my observations of the facility, its inmates, and my overall impression. I will analyse my preconceived ideas of the prison to my actual observation.
Observing William Dickerson Detention Facility
Facility Reception Area:
Preconception
I judge the reception region to have an unpleasant atmosphere. I was prepared for a feeble greeting at the warranter check point. I expected a dry, musty aroma mixed with the familiar overly-bleached foot smell. I expected to see unfriendly warning signs on the walls threatening incarceration for unruly behavior.
Observation
I observed a pleasant yet stern staff at surety check point. His demeanor did not intimidate visitors but it gave front to a since of controlled environment. The champaign had a naturally clean scent. The walls were informal of threats of detention.
Facility Holding Cells:

I expected the entire prison to be a block of gated cells with officers posted at each end. I expected to see a metal quite a little in each of the cells and a community shower.
Observation
The free area that we visited was an open space for inmates to roam, eat, shower, and play freely. If the area had been occupied, one security officer would roam the floor among the inmates while a due south officer would man the desk. There would be no visible barriers, only a line around the desk of which inmates are interdict from crossing. The area had open sleeping quarters, unclosed showers, private toilets, and a gym. The sinks until now had non-glass mirrors made of un-breakable material. The room was well ventilated and represented a very humane setting.
