Ah, the wonderful world of advertising. Weve e truly seen the occasional ad here and there. Some of them are unsubdivided and their message is plain. Some however, are borderline scandalous or shocking to say the least. From Calvin Klein instances modeling jeans lustfully among one some other to fashion models literally giving you the finger, the world of advertising exquisite much knows no boundaries. This brings a particular ad to mind. Seen in Vogue magazine, popular fashion web sites, and even Miznahs intercommunicate at blogspot.com (where I found the Ad); is an image that is considerably overly honest to say the least. The image portrays a fashion model wearing a mink whole steping coat. The model appears as if she is walking past and signing the finger to a friend who is holding a sign that says, Fur is Dead. The look on her face as she is signing her finger is as if shes pissed finish off and quite offended that the patron doesnt utterly adore her mink coat. Or is that whats really going on in this picture?
There are two very strong signifiers in this ad. One obviously is the sign, it is verbally send us, the viewers a message. The patron in the image is understandably holding the sign, Fur is Dead because that is what skin basically is.
It is full to say that all of us are aware that fur coats such as mink, rabbit, fox come from the actual animals themselves. You dont shake up to be a rocket scientist to know that these animals are run and slaughtered for the greed and welfare of mankind. Which is why its mildly alarming that a fashion model would sign her middle finger off to the sign in spite of its message. It really looks as if the ad is not only on the models side, but making a mockery of the sign as well. So basically this ad is a big F You to those against the abuse of animal fur. debauchery? Did this ad just go there, oh no it didnt.
