Mayberrys article focuses around discussing the role that antherals gather in not only the community of Bottom only if how their actions and decision making impacts the relationship between Black males and females. She goes to follow how white men affect the actions of sable men who finally affect the total darkness females in the story. The white men be seen as superior, so naturally, the black men want to be like them or at least as decent as them while still resenting them, not worshiping. They tend to be unsuccessful and resort to black females as the solution to their problems.
In the article, Mayberry writes The bottom is not powerful enough, however, to contain the destructive influences of the (white) impertinent world on young black male development, and few of the beautiful boys remain or return to take their ready as elders (pg. 521). What she means is that, in context with the previous sentence, is that the elders in the story, while uncared for outside their community they serve a actually important role in not only the story, hardly affect the women as well.



Essentially, as mentioned before referring to the Black females as scape goats, the white male dominancy impairs the development of the black male who then resorts to the black female, whom isnt trying to change her ways just according to what WHITE females are doing. The connection I made which I think can be taken from this article is that, white males are superior to black males, and black males try to higher themselves, while although black females tend to be seen as lower ,white females struggled as well therefore the black females had no one to base themselves off of. Although this isnt segmentation of the main idea of the article, it is part of the larger picture.
