Virtue of thought is acquired over time as one gains experiences and association from teachers (not just school teachers but parents or any adults who brook learned material and resources that positively benefit one) (21). This being said, Aristotle thence states that children cannot possess happiness simply due to the fact that their maturate prevents them from acquiring the correct and needed upbringing in the wretched amount of life they have lived (15).
Virtue of character is formed from habits, also known as ethos. None of these virtues, however, arise within naturally. Since birth, the capacity for these virtues is there but one needs to bore them frequently in order to acquire them (21). For example, virtue of character needs constant work that promotes reason to separate within us and is enabled to do so by nature (21). These virtuous actions of ones soul, however, need resources in order to occur. The resources that develop each virtue can also ruin it (21). These resources are due to an external good outside ones control. This outside prosperity, as Aristotle explains, is known as good fortune (14).
